Beware of the Giguda!

My dad told us boys a story about a fishing trip that he took when he was a boy.  He has told this story many many times to us over the years and it always is exactly the same.

My dad was fishing on the Brazos River somewhere around Waco, Texas one late autumn evening. Back then they just had cane poles, and he had all 5 of them baited out with worms, minnows and perch.  Along with him that day was his favorite hunting dogs, Buckskin and Pepper.  Along about dusk the catfish started biting and he had caught about 6 of them when all of the sudden out from under the bank of the river came a huge giguda.  Dad said a giguda was half beaver and half bear and that they were known in these areas to make their dens under
muddy river banks.  Well, when my dad saw the gigoda he took off running and the only thing that kept the gigoda from catching him was this 2 hunting dogs attacking it.  He ran all the way back to the house and waited all night for his dogs to come home. But they didn't.  The next
morning he went back to check on them and found them both dead.  So to this day my 4 brothers and I don't fish on the Brazos river at night.  So if you are a fisherman or hunter be very careful and watch out for gigodas around old river banks.
